Cat's Corner

I’m procrastinating from homework by typing this, but, oh well. Haha … Happy New Year everyone!

The holidays were an amazing time for me. I spent the majority of my time at home in Houston with my family. It was by far the most time I have spent there since I graduated high school. I needed it though. The time away from softball was also much needed.

I love Christmas, not because of the gifts, but because of the decorations. I could go look at lights and decorations all night if you let me. So, needless to say, when I arrived in Houston to see the pathetic light display my dad attempted (yes, he knows this is how I feel about it), I vowed that my brother Craig and I would get to work to fix the light situation. And that we did! It took a few days, mainly because of laziness, but we got the sidewalk lined with lights, both front trees had lights, and the bushes were covered, as well. I put ribbon around the pillars in front of our house, complete with red bows. It wasn’t perfect, but it did the job, and made our house seem Christmasy!

Santa came and went and the presents were nice! I got a GPS unit for my car. I think my mom was tired of me calling the house asking her to look up where I was on Google maps. Oh well, fewer phone calls to the house! =)

I also got a mini grill for my patio! I’ve wanted one for a while so I’m pretty happy. Tucker got a UT jersey that is too small, a training DVD, a toy he’s already chewed apart and a travel kit for food and water. Oh, and my brothers got me beanies for Christmas since they knew I was heading to Colorado to go snowboarding. I got some other stuff, too, but just being home is what was important to me.

The New Years trip was AMAZING! I am now obsessed with snowboarding. I am going to buy my own board, boots and bindings so I can keep going. It took a while to get the hang of it, but once I did, I enjoyed the ride down the mountain. There were 10 of us on the trip, but I really only knew Tina Boutelle. The rest of the girls I knew of because we’ve played against each other, but during the course of the trip I got to know them pretty well and we had a blast.

I don’t like making New Year resolutions because I don’t believe a New Year should be the cause for change. However, this year my New Year celebration was enough to open my eyes a little bit and have me realize I can make some good changes in my life. So to the New Year I say thank you for a great trip and some great friends who are great people!

I’m back at work in Chicago, which also means I am back in school. Oh, I already mentioned homework, so you knew that! Our team has started practice, and I’m enjoying every second of it. Coaching is such a unique opportunity: not only can I share the game I love, but I have a chance to help these girls grow as people. I love it!

I’ve started throwing and working out again, too! June will be here before I know it, and I need to be in shape for the NPS season. I’m excited for the pro season to start! I happen to have a great catcher joining me in Rockford… Megan Willis! =)

Well that’s all for now… I gotta get some work done!
